MME #1 - Less Marketing

Updated: Apr 19, 2020

Music Marketing Experiment (MME) #1

This experiment involved me not trying to force the album down peoples ears but rather I tried to see what songs grew organically. I have been managing the social media pages of restaurants and clubs in Durban for a combined modest time of 3 years. In those years I have realized that word of mouth and organic marketing are the best.

Social media should really be there for a constant awareness that your brand or your product exists. One should not expect or predict any one of your posts otherwise they will mentally block it out.

My experiment proved mildly successful I released my album on the 26th of January 2019 and in December, in terms of streams, it had 100+ on SoundCloud, 700+ on Audiomack, another 300 on Spotify, these were the notable stats. This was after I posted it twice on all major platforms.

In 2020 I plan to stay away from too many posts promoting one song or one album but rather start performing the songs in different places and in different ways, including live and concert or club. I will then post these experiences that give the songs dynamism.

Also this method allows me to focus more on the creation and performance of the music rather than the promoting. I then develop both street and online credibility because I'm posting about progress.
