Umgungundlovu FM - 7 Dec Interview

I was humbly invited to an interview after I tagged along to Stemz radio interview the week before. The show was hosted by King A - Ndu and MaSnappers, they call it the 03Third Hip Hop show

1. Best & Worst Rappers in the South Coast & PMB

One of the topics was the worst and best ratings of hip hop artists in the South Coast (where I'm from) . I honestly couldn’t recall any artists from the coast partly due to the fact that I'm not living on the coast any more. Also when visiting the coast there aren't any local hip hop shows to see local act.

By now the game has to have changed back in my day 2000-2005 it was Gamalakhe and Margate with a few guys in Port Shepstone and Port Edward. With the likes of Lazy-Skuad, Sihle Masinga, Po-Vidi, Abongile and a group from Gamalakhe. Currently some of the best artists in Pietermaritzburg include: Londani a.k.a Dj L on the Drums, Zolani-G, Xzwaeno Lennon, 10-10, Spyz Mbatha just to name a few.

2. Best & Worst Rappers in the South Africa

The best rapper in South Africa for me has to be Emtee, this is a controversial choice to most but Emtee is a thoroughbred MC. I favor him over the likes of NastyC, Areece and Shane because of his ability to bring an African element to an American derivative of Hip Hop, trap. Emtee does this beautifully with the aid of @Ruff_atm. Avery as an album is simply the best work to come out of South Africa in our genre.

The rapper in South Africa who isn't the worst but rather disappoints me, has to be Cassper Nyovest and before I get attacked by the C-hive, let me explain. Cassper out of the top 20 rappers in South Africa isn't a the bottom but for someone who created Gusheshe and Phumakim, his ability has deteriorated, in terms of flow and melody. He is still very talented and cares very little about what I or anyone else says about his rap ability, he simply focuses on his work and himself. I hope that he brings back the same level of hunger in his upcoming album that he had in Tsolofelo.

3. Best & Worst Rappers in the World

For this topic I chose Iggy Azalea as the worst, which was very lazy answer, I simply took popular opinion and make it my own. I believe that you cannot be amongst the top artists and not have some talent, there are many tastes and variations of hip hop and it's unfair to claim that Iggy is the worst.

Best rapper in the world right now is Token, I say this and I haven't listened to an album fully just notable tracks from the latest album Somewhere in Between released in 2019. He reminds me of a hungrier Eminem, who is still considered the best rapper of all time. Token brings what we would have expected from an evolved Eminem with a relevance that is as swift as the information age.

4. Using International Producers vs Local

I spoke to King A about the producer and engineer on my album who are based in Amsterdam, Holland. I chose Steven Maroghi and Petrushka Morsink because of their work ethic, Steve on the beat is always ready to work and his mastering is professional he then introduced me to Petrushka who Steve believed was better at the track mastering and mixing, Petrushka then introduced me to another producer Fentom.

This year I have decided to work with local producer, so as to have a more personal touch, even though I still am working via the internet and instant messenger like I was with my international team.

5. General Info

I spoke about my album Delusions of grandeur |Ub'Ciko and explained the title. I also played Bizana Made Us, South Coast Flavor and You're Still A Bouncer.
